William F. Durland Jr., MD
Dr. Durland grew up in Monroe, North Carolina and graduated as valedictorian from Monroe High School in 1988. At the University of North Carolina, he was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa honor society and went on to graduate with honors and distinction with a degree in Chemistry in 1992. He worked in research and development at Glaxo Pharmaceuticals for one year and then attended medical school at the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill, where he graduated with honors. While in medical school, he spent a year of dedicated research studying the physiologic pathways of nasal allergies and investigating the significance of tumor markers in head and neck cancers. He went on to complete his internship in general surgery and his residency in otolaryngology at the University of Wisconsin Hospitals and Clinics in Madison, Wisconsin. He finished his residency as chief resident in 2003.
Dr. Durland is board-certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology. He enjoys all aspects of otolaryngology. He has a special interest in otology (hearing disorders and ear surgery), laryngology (treatment of voice problems), pediatric otolaryngology, rhinology (nasal allergy/sinus surgery), and thyroid surgery.
“I chose a career in medicine because I wanted to make a direct, positive contribution to our community,” he said. “Otolaryngology is a specialty that provides a good blend of both medical and surgical treatments.”
Dr. Durland is a volunteer Scoutmaster for BSA Troop 395 and enjoys tennis, hiking, camping, skiing and fishing.
