Nicolas-George Katsantonis, MD
Dr. Nicolas-George (Nic) Katsantonis developed a love of medicine and surgery watching his father, a native of Greece, practice otolaryngology in St. Louis, Missouri. With this inspiration in his sails, Dr. Katsantonis received his Bachelors of Science degree with Cum Laude honors from the University of Notre Dame in 2008, followed by his Doctor of Medicine degree, achieved with Summa Cum Laude honors, from Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine in 2013. He then moved to Nashville for his residency training in Otolaryngology—Head and Neck Surgery at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, which he completed in 2018. In addition to his surgical training, his experience at Vanderbilt included published research in idiopathic and acquired laryngotracheal stenosis (upper airway narrowing). He received first place in the Vanderbilt Otolaryngology Annual Resident Research Competition in 2017.
Dr. Katsantonis is board-certified in otolaryngology by the American Board of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. He is trained in all disciplines of otolaryngology, but as a surgeon, he is especially interested in head and neck cancer and its multimodal treatment, sinus disease, airway disorders, and ear disease. He enjoys treating both adults and children and identifies particularly with the latter, having undergone ENT surgery as a child. He appreciates the importance of educating patients on a disease’s natural history, discussing the pros and cons of surgery and its realistic outcomes, and supporting patients through the post-operative period.
While at Vanderbilt, he married his high school sweetheart Allison, now a pediatric occupational therapist, and had a son—Arthur—during his chief resident year. Dr. Katsantonis has a love for the outdoors, art, movies, cooking with his wife, and all things Notre Dame. New to North Carolina, his family is eager to hike the Blue Ridge Mountains, sample the local food scene, and get to know this beautiful state and its capital city.
